This was a fun little project that we got to do in between our other projects. I picked a reindeer because I wanted to do something thats a cartoon, a animal, and something people will aww at when they see it. The difficult part was doing the bottom half of the body. Since the is suppose to be slightly bigger than the body, it was hard making it look proportional but still have the head bigger. It was fun painting because I actually enjoy it, but it was hard making it look like snow. In the picture you can not really see what I did. I mixed some blue with white and use q-tips. It makes it look like puffy kind of if that makes sense. I learned how to use paint in different shades. Like for the sky I had to go from light to dark. It kind of looks funny because it looks like straight lines but I will have to get better at making it look all together. I like when Puff Paff assigns us little projects like this because it is just fun to do whatever and draw whatever. Hopefully we get something like this again soon!
In this project I decided I am going to make a bowl out of clay. I got this idea because at first I was going to make a pair of sunglasses, but that got way too difficult. When making a bowl, you first have to grab a slab of clay. I then grabbed a plastic bowl and traced the outline of it so I could make a perfect circle for my base. I had to make sure I grabbed a bowl that wasn't too small or too big. Then you have to start making what I call "snakes" out of the clay. This does sound a little silly but make sure that the whole "snake" is even so your bowl won't be sideways. You will wrap the clay around the base and keep stacking them on, until you reach the height you want. You will want to smooth it out so there are no bumps. I did both the outside and the inside. I wanted my bowl to be wider, so by smoothing the inside it made it wider. I have not fully finished it yet, but I plan on making it so its wide and smooth like a actual bowl. I want to actually use it at home.
I learned how to use slabs of clay to make something useful at home. Last year when we did clay in art 1 I wasn't really good at smoothing out the clay. This year I learned how to use the proper tools so I could smooth out my clay project better. Right now my bowl is kind of uneven on top, but I plan on learning how to even that out and fix it from falling to one side. As I am finishing my project, I plan on learning more things on the way to finishing. I want to learn how to use clay better so I can make some really cool projects like the projects I have seen in my class. The hand drawing was actually pretty fun to draw. I got really creative with it and drew the hand holding the apple. This project was rather difficult because fingers are really hard to draw to scale, especially when you have to draw a gigantic hand on a large piece of paper. Another hard part about drawing this piece was making the forearm or arm look muscular and real. What I really liked about my drawing was my shading. I thought I went from light to dark very well especially in my apple. One thing that made me mad was when someone totally ruined my drawing and smeared it and smeared ink or something all over it. One of my best pieces of art in this class and someone comes and ruins it. HOW RUDE!!!!! Anyways, the project was really hard to do at first, but when you got the hang of it it became one of the better projects. (:
The hub affected the fold of the drapery because that's where all the wrinkles and small folding began. They began where the pin is to pin up the drapery on the wall. I learned that light affects the three surfaces of the drapery because It creates darker and lighter areas. While shading you had to make sure that you made sure the dark spots are dark then fade to a white or lighter shade. It was hard making the drape 3D because wherever the drape is pinned at, you had to make it come out and shade it according to the lighting. It was the darker shading that really got me on this project. Since this was the first time ever using charcoal, it was hard getting use to it. Like spreading it out and making sure you get the right values and making it look 3 dimensional. I liked how much easier it is to shade a art piece instead of using pencil like what we had to do in art 1. Once I got the hang of it, it made my project look way better. This project isn't that good with shading because I was still getting use to shading and using the charcoal.
These four objects represent me because I am always on my phone and I couldn't live without it. A snickers represents me because I am a person who loves sweets. I picked my car key and my wallet because since I got my license, I seriously drive everywhere and my wallet has all my money and stuff in it. I literally have those two things wherever I go including my phone. I chose these compositions because Mr. Puffpaff wanted to see us draw from different angles and zoom in on certain spots. The objects are zoomed in so each edge hits three different points. I think the dark areas of my shading need to be improved. I need to work on making the objects look more 3 dimensional. I think the shading and the drawing in generally worked well for the snicker bar and the phone. If you actually look at the drawing in person, you can tell that the snickers bar is more 3 dimensional and I did a good job of going from light to dark. The wallet and the key are kind of messed up and could use some more work.
